The purpose of PEPL System is to control level crossings in V301, V303, V305 and V308 railway’s schemes ensuring their safety opening.
The system is made of different elements depending on railway’s schemes and on the number of level crossings (up to 4). The elements are:
• A logical unit that manages level crossings based on both pedals and track circuits information, by using SIL4 RFI Communication Protocol. It also allows to transmit measurement data and alarms to a remote Centralized Diagnostic System (SDC) by using RFI FSIS01 Communication Protocol
• Up to 2 announcement pedals (Pc), used to detect the train for level crossing closing
• Up to 4 freeing pedals (PPL), used for level crossing safety opening and placed close to level crossing
• Up to 4 track circuits (CdB), used for level crossing safety opening and placed close to level crossing

PEPL System has a safety architecture that ensures a SIL4 safety integrity level, according to Cenelec EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129 and EN 50159 regulations.
PEPL System solves the undue opening problem of a level crossing, managing it in a safety way. A rail plant upgrade can be done without new cable installation or by using optical fiber to improve availability.
The logical unit allows to transmit measurement data and alarms to a remote Centralized Diagnostic System (SDC) or to a Local Maintenance System (PM) using RFI FSIS01 Communication Protocol.
PEPL System can be configured in order to manage up to 4 PL in one of the following railway’s schemes V301, V303, V305 and V308.
